Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK)

UPK Preschool Program For Colorado Families

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) will fund up to 15 hours per week of high-quality, voluntary preschool for every child in Colorado for the year before entering Kindergarten (Pre-K).

The Universal Preschool Program (UPK) allows families to choose the right setting for their child, whether it is in a licensed community-based, school-based, or home-based preschool setting. UPK is a result of Colorado voters passing Proposition EE in 2020. In the 2022 Legislative Session, HB22-1295 established the Colorado Universal Preschool Program to offer voluntary, high-quality universal preschool to every Colorado child in the year before kindergarten.

What Does This Mean for Platte Valley Early Learning Center Families?

Platte Valley families will be able to take advantage of 15 hours per week of free preschool provided by the CDEC. Some children might be eligible for additional UPK hours if they meet two qualifying factors.

4-Year-Olds (Students that turn 4 on or before August 1, 2025)

Families will apply for preschool through the Universal Preschool Program (UPK) family portal.

Please contact Platte Valley's Early Learning Center at 970-336-8760 with any additional questions.
