The Spelling Bee is open to fourth and fifth grades. Together with the Middle School, students compete to determine the District's State Spelling Bee Qualifier through our own local bee. Platte Valley Students then compete in an exhibition bee against other schools in the area for bragging rights in the NPMLA Spelling Bee in February.
The Continental Math League contest is open to fourth and fifth grades and takes place in May. Over the course of one week, the students compete against their grade cohorts in a winner-takes-all tournament.
Patterned after the Girl Scouts of the USA World Thinking Day event, the World Fair offers third, fourth, and fifth grade students the opportunity to learn about and report on a country of their choice. They learn about its physical, human, and economic geography and then make a display that is judged fair-style. The World Fair takes place in March.
